This 54-story iconic structure is located on the west bank of the Chicago River. With only 80 feet of usable land, the distinctive sloping face is both aesthetically pleasing and a structural necessity.
An 888-ringer crane on sectional barges was deployed in the Chicago River for erecting the precast plaza tees and the massive double W36x935 columns. The large 888 capacities allowed for the unitization of the north and south moment frames – weighing in at 250,000 lbs each. The structure boasts over 1.2 million square feet of office space with some of the best views in the city.
70KSI columns were used for the first time in North America, saving hundreds of tons of steel while creating a stronger, more rigid building. The roof has a mass tune dampener to counteract the wind load imposed on the building. The precast plaza and parking garage were also erected by CSC. The plaza creates a green space along the Chicago River that truly sets it apart in the heart of the business district. The building is one of the most-awarded towers in Chicago, receiving national and international acclaim.
